The Local Grocer

How it all began

Producing healthy, local food is our passion

The Flint Ingredient Company (the Farm) began in 2012 with co-owners Erin Caudell and Franklin Pleasant double digging their Flint, MI front yard for garden space. After a season growing produce for an informal two family Community Supported Agriculture program and selling at small neighborhood farmers' markets in they decided to purchase a 8-plus acres of vacant land in the Beecher area.

Four years, four hoophouses, and two beehives later they are working toward creating the farm they envisioned. Erin and Franklin have a commitment to being good stewards of the soil they are caring for by not using synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. They use organic seeds, preferring heirloom varieties, whenever possible and do not use any genetically modified or chemically treated seeds.

Flint Ingredient Company jam, microgreens, and produce can be found at their Flint Farmers Market stall The Local Grocer and restaurants like Cork, The Lunch Studio and Crepe Company in downtown Flint.

The Local Grocer has grown to work with other farms such as Thread Creek Farm, Five Elements Farm, Meadows Produce, Joe's Gourmet Mushrooms, Ten Hens Farm, Hopyard Farm and Three Roods Farm to provide our customers with consistent options for local produce.
